9 - OUR IMPACT ON OTHERS

Writer's picture: David LutesDavid Lutes

1 Thessalonians 1:4

4 For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you…

God is proactively, deliberately and purposefully in pursuit of people – so they can know Him intimately, personally and eternally. His love is total and equal for all people – in spite of our opinion about them. He doesn’t discriminate nor is He indiscriminate or random about His reaching out to us, through us and finding us and others. He has a purpose in everything He does. We never know who He is ‘working on’ at any given moment. He is The Orchestrator of situations and circumstances and, in spite of our best efforts to control our own destinies, He has a wonderful knack of lovingly nudging us toward His purpose for our lives!

He is at work in ways we can never imagine in the lives of everyone around us. And because we are partners with Him in His work in the world, we would probably be shocked to learn what effect and impact our life has on others. He has an interest in what we do and how and why we do it. And so do the people we work with, whether we know it or like it – or not. Paul’s leadership style was to constantly assume that God was reaching out and touching lives through him. We should assume the same and accept our daily calling. We will say this again (and again, probably), people don’t read the Bible … they read us. God is actively seeking ‘readers’. He calls people to Himself through the pages of our lives.

PRAYER ACTION

Lord, sorry about my need to control everything. Show me how to take my hands off the things I can’t control, and how to let you be God more often. Show me how to leave the things that I haven’t got a hope of changing and stop stressing about them. Help me leave tomorrow to you.

“Live your life the way you want to be remembered.”
