33 - GOD’STALKING

1 Thessalonians 2:13

13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.

It’s amazing (and a relief) to know that God is always working ‘behind the scenes’ in ways we can’t see or imagine.  We try to consciously get up and go to work with the intention and desire to live and work in ways that honor God and touches others.  We know He uses our lives and not only our words to be His Message to those around us – often in spite of us! Like the Hound of Heaven (poet, Francis Thompson), God is proactively, deliberately, patiently and lovingly ‘stalking’ those whose hearts are even slightly open to Him – to woo, draw and whisper to them; to get inside them and work on them to show them His love and give them Life.  We could even suggest that He ‘sets people up for blessing’ – brings them to a place where they must respond – one way or another.  We are part of this process, even at work.

We simply, often never know, never see and can only hope our life-message and our Gospel words – spoken as seeds sown ‘in season’ are being planted in good soil and will be received by and take root in others.

But we can take heart and be encouraged, that if we continue to give thanks even for those we don’t like in our place of work and find time and ways to be for others what they secretly hope God will be like, then we WILL be more than a ‘human word’.  If we prayerfully make time to give a kind word, constructive feedback, praise and recognition or show appreciation for good work, encouragement for those who struggle; if we provide consistency of direction and clarity of goals and expectations, coaching and development, etc. – we WILL be the word of God at work in others.  And He may even trust us to speak about it sometimes!

PRAYER ACTION

Lord, help me today to know in my ‘knower’, and have that quiet assurance, that you are working behind the scenes. I trust you to be faithful. I want to learn to rest in the truth of that. I’ll be honest…it would be nice to obviously see your Hand from time to time…but you know what I need and how much I need to ‘see’. I WILL praise you Lord! I WILL place my trust in You! By your Grace I WILL be your person in this place! Point me to them!
