1 Thessalonians 1v9-10
9 …for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead-Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
People are constantly looking and hoping for good, positive news and a sense that the world has order, reason and meaning. They are looking for direction and purpose and a 'sure and certain hope' that is more than wishful thinking. All around us, at work or at play, people are seeking and yearning for clarity in an uncertain world; solid, reliable, powerful good news that 'works' in this life and inspires and encourages them to embrace something higher and bigger than themselves.
We spend approximately one-third of our adult lives at work - so most people are hoping for a great boss, even inspirational leadership, challenging and rewarding work - and to maybe receive back some of the reward that goes with making their contribution to the success of the organization. To have this will help them focus on better ways to work and live and from this they derive greater hope for a better, more secure future. And many people just, simply, flat want a fair wage for a good day's work...steadily; predictably.
Paul and others not only pointed the way, they 'walked the way' of sure Hope.
Our vision is fixed, our hope is secure, our final rescue guaranteed - and this in us - even just that special something IN us (not to mention the action that can follow) - can touch and inspire those around us.
PRAYER ACTION
Lift my head and my sights and my mood toward Hope today...break me of the habit of clinging to the edge of the cliff by my fingernails - hoping - that I won't fall. Show me today that You are my Hope, My Anchor, my Sure Bet. Fill my head and heart with this insight...lift me and carry me forward, head high...sights fixed!
"Leadership is much more an art, a belief, a condition of the heart, than a set of things to do. The visible signs of artful leadership are expressed, ultimately, in its practice."
